What we look for
We look beyond any single academic background or professional profile. Relevant experience, analytical ability, intellectual curiosity and evidence of applied competence all contribute to how we evaluate investment talent. The requirements of individual positions vary, but several qualities are important across Liberfield Capital's investment activities.
Independent Judgment
The ability to evaluate evidence critically, question prevailing assumptions and reach a reasoned conclusion rather than relying on market consensus.
Analytical Rigor
A disciplined approach to research, valuation and risk, together with the ability to explain the reasoning behind an investment decision clearly.
Risk Awareness
An understanding that attractive returns must be considered alongside liquidity, leverage, concentration, implementation risk and adverse market scenarios.
Intellectual Adaptability
The capacity to learn unfamiliar markets, instruments and operating environments without applying an inflexible or purely domestic framework.
Strategy-specific expertise
Different investment activities require different forms of expertise. We assess candidates in the context of the work they would be expected to perform.
Volatility Arbitrage
Work involving volatility, options and futures requires more than familiarity with individual products. We look for an integrated understanding of how pricing, volatility, market structure and portfolio exposures interact.
- Options and futures mechanics
- Volatility surfaces and term structure
- Greeks and nonlinear portfolio exposures
- Margin, leverage and liquidity
- Scenario analysis and tail risk
- Trade construction and position management
Candidates should be able to distinguish a genuine volatility thesis from a position whose principal risk is an unacknowledged directional exposure. For roles involving options, futures and volatility strategies, we value evidence of applied derivatives competence. This may be demonstrated through relevant professional experience, technical work, trading or risk-management projects, and specialist qualifications such as the Certified Futures and Options Analyst (CFOA).
Alternative Real Estate
Our approach to alternative real estate requires a combination of financial analysis, commercial judgment and attention to the operational realities of individual assets.
- Asset-level underwriting
- Cash-flow and sensitivity analysis
- Local regulation and planning considerations
- Operational and execution risk
- Evaluation of unconventional property uses
- Cross-border real estate experience
We value candidates who can connect financial assumptions with the practical conditions that determine whether a property strategy can be executed successfully.
Global Opportunity
Global investing requires the ability to assess opportunities across different economic, political, legal and institutional environments. We particularly value candidates with genuine cross-border experience and the ability to compare markets without applying purely domestic assumptions.
- Cross-border investment or operating experience
- Emerging and frontier-market awareness
- Comparative analytical thinking
- Political and institutional risk assessment
- Multi-asset research capability
- Cultural and commercial awareness
Strong candidates can separate broad global narratives from investable opportunities and identify where differences in market structure, valuation or access may create an advantage.
How we assess candidates
We assess candidates holistically. Depending on the position, the process may include discussion of previous investment or risk decisions, technical questions, case studies, work samples and evidence of relevant professional development.
Academic qualifications and professional credentials can provide useful context, but no single qualification determines an outcome. We place particular weight on the clarity of a candidate's reasoning, the quality of their risk judgment and their ability to apply technical knowledge to realistic decisions.
Current opportunities
Liberfield Capital does not recruit continuously across every strategy. Relevant investment and operational opportunities will be published here as the firm's requirements develop.
